Today marks the beginning of week three.
It also marks the end of the this-isn't-so-bad part of the running portion of the challenge.
Yes, I am admitting IN A PUBLIC FORUM that while I can walk from here to Cincinnati (okay, I don't know that I can) running for three minutes in a row is exhausting. I know that it doesn't help that I've got a pair of 34DDDs strapped to my chest (extra fat stores to stave off post-apocalyptic starvation? Or am I looking at post-apocalyptic table dancing in my future?) and two bras (one normal, one bionic) are required to keep the girls from looking like a couple of puppies playing on a waterbed.
The soreness from lifting is just starting to go away but I'm still exhausted as I haven't adjusted to my punishing schedule (as my lack of daily updates may indicate.) The scale tells me that I've shaved off a couple of pounds and my endurance has definitely improved.
But if you asked me to run for my life, I might just ask you for a glass of wine and a cigarette to toast my impending demise.
How're you?

I am doing my part to make your run shorter by staying behind as zombie fodder. Pass the wine.

Right now I only run if I'm being chased. The treadmill in my house was inherited from mother-in-law, and I'm pretty sure it was one of the first ones ever made for home use. I weigh 257 (lost 3 pounds!) and that sucker groans in protest if I even look at it.
My strength training is going much better than my endurance exercises. I can now do three whole pull-ups. Don't think that's a big deal? You try and pull up 257 pounds three times then.

I wanted to thank you, for this blog. Your training and betterment has helped me realise the need to organise a few projects and refine a few skills, of my own. It really wasn't until I saw your list of skills to learn that I realised what I needed to do.
Thank you.

@Annika: I appreciate it!
@CG: As someone who can't do a single pullup, I salute you. And I'm practicing for when I'm being chased! (I'll add speed drills for the next challenge, I think.)
@Damien: You're welcome! Organizing everything that you need to do is sort of a PITA (and honestly, that's been the longest part of this process) but once I have it down, actually doing it is a snap. (Minus running, of course.)

Actually, I ran today as well. But it's only because the newspaper box is far from the apartment and it was DAMN COLD OUTSIDE. I found out that I can run for a bit because I got to the paper box and realized that I didn't have enough change. Repeat the running.
So, I'll survive for at least 1/2 a mile.

I'm starting Week 3 tomorrow. I have a feeling Week 3 is going to be painful...

@Fearsclave: In-freaking-deed.

While at work, I can't follow the link to your bionic bra, but I want to suggest the Enell brand of bra. I used to have to wear multiple bras at the same time too (34DD, I feel your pain). I don't work for them, I promise. :)

My resolution for this year is to be able to run. Just that. As you say, I can also walk for hours, but running .... not for me. I'm also follwing the 5k training, but I do every week twice. That is, I did the week 1 training for 2 weeks, etc. It's working much better for me. Slow but safe! And it's really working.

Got installment 7 run today at lunch, and lo and behold, it didn't kick my ass (all that hard). Was cold enough to freeze the wires on my iPod, which probably helped.
Incidentally, just plugged the PAW over on LiveJournal's Zombie Survival community: http://community.livejournal.com/zombie_survival/271047.html?mode=reply

Take it easy. You're just getting over illness and you'll be no good to man nor beast if you pop your clogs before the apocolypse

@Jenifer: HA. Did you get your paper?
@9a: The food is the hardest. I mean, it's easy to eat. I've been mindful, but not insane about cutting back on food. I'm going to start being more strict.
@Katie: I'll check it out.
@CSP: The whole point is to slowly ramp up, so if you need two weeks, take two weeks! The whole point is to do it, which you are!
@FS: thanks!
@astro: True, but I'll live.

The History Channel had a 2-hour special tonight "Life After People" showing what would probably happen if there were no (or few) people left on earth. On their website they have a Survival Guide related to the show called "Could You Survive?" that has some ideas and tips from a survival expert.

I should have known the link would be cut off. You can go to

and click on "Could You Survive?"

@smiley: I watched that last night! My diagnosis: minus the fate of some domesticated animals, it seems like life after people was pretty much A-OK!

Ha ha ha ha I was *also* going to plug Enell (and no, I don't work for them either).
I am a 40DDD, I play a lot of softball, and it is the best bra a girl running from zombies could ever ask for.
Cheers on the PAW!
